During their school break from July 13-15, 40 Muslim students from the American Corner Pattani and Yala joined together in Satun Province at the “Uncle Sam Community Development Camp” to build their awareness of volunteerism, boost their knowledge about the United States, and practice their English with native speakers. Led by four Peace Corps volunteers, the three-day camp was filled with fun learning activities, and also included an introduction to U.S. snacks like s’mores and halal marshmallows. Participants developed projects to implement at American Corners including women in entrepreneurship, English teaching to underprivileged kids, and library services for patrons with disabilities.
