Passport process takes approximately five to six weeks. Please note, there is no expedite service when applying for U.S. passport overseas.
Step 1: SIGN and complete the DS-82 Passport Renewal Form. Type or print clearly in black ink.
*NOTE: You must provide a Social Security number if you been issued one, in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a and 22 C.F.R 51.60(f).
- If you do not have, forgotten or lost, a Social Security number, please click here.
If an applicant is unable to provide their SSN, then U.S. Embassy Bangkok can issue a direct-return passport to the United States only.
- If you have never been issued Social Security Number (SSN), you must submit a statement, signed and dated, that includes the phrase, “I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the following is true and correct: I have never been issued a Social Security Number by the Social Security Administration.”
Step 2: Obtain two WHITE background color passport photo 2” x 2” (5 x 5 cm) taken within the past 6 months; no eyeglasses. See more information on photo requirements.

Step 3: Include your current passport card/ or passport book, if it is the first time applying for a passport card, in the package you mail to the Embassy.
Step 4: Pay passport card application fee by bank draft from one of the following banks.

IMPORTANT: Please check for correctness on the issued bank drafts (see sample below) prior to leaving the bank. DO NOT write on the bank draft.
Step 5: Return envelope, an insured return envelope is required when you are applying for U.S. passport in Thailand. Please purchase a bank draft to pay for the envelope fee — click here for Bank draft request form.
NOTE: Prepaid envelope cannot be accepted when you are applying for a U.S. passport in Thailand.
Step 6: Print Checklist (PDF 247KB) and Mail all the items listed above to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok
