Statement by Ambassador Glyn T. Davies on 3.5 Million Baht Donation to Assist Flood Victims in Thailand

On behalf of the American people, I offer my sincere condolences and sympathy to the people of Thailand for the loss of life and damage caused by the flooding in southern Thailand.

Unseasonably heavy rains over the past weeks have led to severe flooding in more than 12 provinces in the southern areas of Thailand.  As of today, the severe flooding has caused over 20 deaths and affected more than 1 million people.

Given the extensive damage and the humanitarian need caused by the recent heavy rains and floods, the United States in solidarity with the people of Thailand will provide USD 100,000 (3.5 million baht) through the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok to Save the Children for emergency relief.  The funds, channeled through the United States Agency for International Development, will be used to support Save the Children’s relief efforts in the affected provinces.
