Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand today in Bangkok. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Prime Minister Prayut reaffirmed the enduring strength of the U.S.-Thai alliance and the importance of our longstanding partnership, which has advanced shared prosperity and security across the Indo-Pacific. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also affirmed the United States’ commitment to ASEAN centrality.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the United States’ strong commitment to working together with Thailand to fight COVID-19, including through the recent U.S. commitment of $5 million for Thailand’s pandemic response and the U.S. donation of 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, 1.5 million of which are already being deployed to protect the people of Thailand. The two leaders also discussed the deepening political and humanitarian crisis in Burma.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield raised the importance of respect for human rights, and shared her appreciation for Thailand’s efforts to respond to the climate crisis, as well as the importance of accelerating these efforts.
