Deputy Chief of Mission Peter Haymond spoke at the fifth annual meeting of the Intellectual Property Criminal Enforcement Network (IPCEN) in Bangkok on February 14. The IPCEN is an important initiative for the U.S. Department of Justice and other US Government agencies and brings key law enforcement and industry officials from ASEAN and north Asian nations with the goal of strengthening international cooperation in fighting large-scale intellectual property crimes. “Intellectual property crime is a persistent and growing threat not just to this region, but to the world,” said Deputy Chief of Mission Peter Haymond. “Intellectual property crime directly affects countries in this region by discouraging innovation and reducing revenue. It imposes direct financial losses to business and individuals through counterfeiting, piracy, fraud, and trade secret theft; and harming the health and safety of consumers.”
