Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Thailand (October 14, 2020)

Location: Bangkok, Thailand – Democracy Monument in Bangkok – (Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Wat Bowon Niwet, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200, Thailand)

Event:  U.S. Embassy Bangkok informs U.S. citizens of a planned political gathering at the Democracy Monument in Bangkok, on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 14:00.

Reports indicate the gathering could involve a sizable crowd of participants.  The Royal Thai Police plan to be present and may set up check points in and around the area in connection with the event.  Plan ahead for the possibility of traffic and other potential disruptions in downtown Bangkok.

Although violence is not expected, even peaceful demonstrations can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  Avoid demonstration areas, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings or protests.  U.S. citizens should monitor local news and social media reports before traveling to downtown Bangkok on Wednesday.
