Event:  U.S. Embassy Bangkok informs U.S. citizens a protest is planned tomorrow, November 21, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ratchaprasong Intersection near Erawan Shrine and Central World Shopping Center in central Bangkok.  The protest location is also near the Ratchadamri and Siam Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) stations.  U.S. Government employees have been advised they must avoid the vicinity of the Ratchaprasong Intersection from 12:00 p.m., November 21, 2020, until the demonstration ends.  Reports indicate this planned protest could involve a large crowd of participants and the Royal Thai Police will be present.  There has been an escalation in confrontations between protesters and the RTP during recent protests.

Reports also indicate related protests are likely in other cities throughout Thailand.  Protest activity in Thailand may continue for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas of demonstrations, protests, and large gatherings.  Recent political gatherings have taken place with little to no notice of location or time and are often located near BTS stations. U.S. citizens should monitor local news and social media reports for up to date information on protest activity.
