Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Thailand (August 15, 2020)

Location: Bangkok, Thailand – Democracy Monument

Event: The U.S. Embassy Bangkok informs U.S. citizens of a planned political gathering Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Democracy Monument in Bangkok beginning at 17:00.

Reports indicate the gathering could involve a sizable crowd.  Plan ahead for the possibility of traffic and other potential disruptions in downtown Bangkok.

Although violence is not expected, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

  • Monitor local media and our Embassy website for updates, and check your email for further alerts.
  • Avoid the area of demonstrations.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.
