In 2013, U.S. President Barack Obama launched the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) to enhance the U.S. relations with future leaders of Southeast Asia and foster an ASEAN community. This year, the YSEALI Academic Fellowship will bring 250 current or recently graduated students from ASEAN member countries to the United States for five weeks at participating U.S. universities and colleges. The program will include a study program, leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with American peers.
The YSEALI Academic Fellowships are intensive short-term academic institutes whose purpose is to provide groups of young leaders with a deeper understanding of the U.S. and a particular theme, while simultaneously enhance their leadership skills.
