The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok is pleased to announce the arrival of Honorable Glyn Townsend Davies as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Kingdom of Thailand.
Ambassador-designate Davies arrived in Thailand on September 22, 2015.
A career senior Foreign Service officer with 35 years of diplomatic experience, Glyn Davies previously served as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the Department of State, a position he held since 2014. Prior to that, he was Special Representative for North Korea Policy, and previously served as the United States Representative to the Vienna Office of the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Ambassador Davies has held senior leadership positions in the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Bureau of Public Affairs, and Bureau of European Affairs, as well as the National Security Council. His overseas assignments include posts in the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Zaire.
Ambassador Davies received a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University and later earned a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College at Ft. McNair, Washington DC. He and his wife Jacqueline Davies have two adult daughters and two granddaughters.
Upon Ambassador Davies’ arrival he said, “I look forward to getting to know, listening to, and learning from people throughout the kingdom. Through them, I hope to understand Thailand’s rich traditions and culture. My goal is to deepen understanding between our people and to work together to enhance our mutual security and prosperity.”
