Ambassador Godec and Consul General Buzenas Deepen Partnerships in Mekong Region
During a May visit to Thailand’s northernmost province of Chiang Rai, U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Robert Godec and Chiang Mai Consul General Buzenas met with local officials, civil society leaders, educators, and law enforcement partners to discuss deepening our partnerships in the Mekong Region. Ambassador Godec highlighted the importance of the Mekong-U.S. Partnership (MUSP), ongoing efforts to empower Mekong communities impacted by environmental changes, and U.S.-Thai law enforcement cooperation in the Golden Triangle that protects both our countries. Ambassador Godec also visited local weaving communities in Chiang Khong, where he learned about traditional weaving techniques and met with locals to listen to problems related to the Mekong River.
