Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meetings with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and National Security Council Secretary-General Nattaphon Narkphanit

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met in Bangkok today with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and National Security Council Secretary-General Nattaphon Narkphanit. In both meetings, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reaffirmed the strength of the longstanding U.S.-Thailand alliance. The Ambassador also underscored the U.S. commitment to the Thai people as we work together to fight COVID-19, including through the recent donation of 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses and a previously-announced commitment of another one million more vaccine doses. She additionally highlighted her announcement today of $55 million in new U.S. assistance for humanitarian and pandemic response efforts in the region.

In her meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed concern about the crisis in Burma and its implications for regional stability. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also emphasized the importance of protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and NSC Secretary-General Nattaphon Narkphanit discussed the importance of continued cooperation between the United States and Thailand on a range of issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic response and humanitarian needs.
